As winter approaches and freezing temperatures loom, it is important to detach and empty your rain barrel. Otherwise, it will freeze and crack. Store it in a garage or sheltered place where it can’t blow in the wind. If you keep it outside, make sure no new rain or snow can get in.

When spring arrives and the danger of a freeze is past, reattach it to collect those April or May showers.
