The Bike Patrol Unit consists of officers specially trained in the operation of police mountain bicycles as a patrol tactic. Such tactics allow for police presence in an area not easily accessible to patrol vehicles or when circumstances call for a stealthier response. Bike officers patrol residential developments, local parks, shopping centers and industrial centers.
The Criminal Investigations Unit (CIU) consists of officers that are specially trained in the investigation of crimes against people and property. Criminal Investigators have specialized training in the investigation of specific crimes, including but not limited to, arson, burglary, computer crimes, frauds and sex offenses. Investigators also have specialized training in the recovery of physical evidence, the interviewing of victims of crime and the interrogation of criminal suspects.
Our department is a participating agency in the Bucks County Major Incident Response Team (MIRT). This response team is a county-wide, multi-agency unit comprised of officers from all Bucks County departments. The officers of this unit are specially trained to deal with large-scale situations, including but not limited to, natural disasters, dignitary protection and crowd/riot control. Upon request by an agency, the unit can deploy 100 officers at short notice.
Our department participates in the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP). The Motor Carrier Enforcement Unit consists of specially trained officers who stop and inspect commercial vehicles to ensure they are compliant with state and federal laws. Commercial vehicles can be small trucks w/trailers, medium-large trucks, tractor-trailers and buses. The inspections performed by our officers ensure that the vehicle is in good working order and compliant with required safety standards. Also, the inspections shall ensure that the driver is properly licensed and in good physical condition to operate the vehicle. Any vehicle or driver found to be deficient shall be taken out of service until corrections and/or improvements are made.
The Narcotics Investigation Unit is comprised of officers with specialized training in the investigation of narcotics trafficking & use. Officers are duly-sworn with the Bucks County District Attorney's Office and carry out their operations county-wide.
Our department is a participating agency in the Central Bucks Special Response Team (CBSRT). This response team is a multi-agency unit comprised of officers from Central & Upper Bucks County. Upon request by an agency, this unit can be called out for high-risk incidents, including but not limited to, warrant services, searches for armed subjects, hostage situations and incidents involving barricaded subjects.
The Highway Safety Unit consists of specially trained officers who are responsible for the collection and analysis of traffic data, investigation & reconstruction of traffic crashes and enforcement of the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code. Some of the duties of the Highway Safety Unit are speed enforcement details, DUI patrols and checkpoints, seatbelt checkpoints and traffic surveys.
